CREATING BROCHURES THAT SELL

Paper Type, Photos, Colors and Design all Contribute to Success

The color, weight and texture of paper all have an impact on the reader. Choose a color that coordinates with your company logo and complements the artwork in the brochure. Determine the weight of your stock based on your budget and how the piece will be used. Paper stock may also reflect the image of the company. Are you looking for a glossy or coated paper, or a textured paper to add dimension? Recycled paper sends the message that you care about the environment. Note that some recycled papers are more expensive than non-recycled paper.

Photos

The right photos can greatly enhance your brochure. Be sure they are professional looking and communicate the right message. A photo caption should describe the product, service or person featured.

Folds

From simple tri-fold brochures that fit into a standard business envelope to complex accordion-fold brochures, there is an art to designing folds in a brochure. The purpose, size and budget of the piece will help determine the number of folds.

Colors

Ink and paper colors are not only important in reinforcing your corporate brand, they can also increase readability. By adding one spot color to a black-and-white piece, you can increase readability by 35 percent. Generally, a full-color brochure will look the best, budget permitting. But two or three colors in a compelling design can work just as well.
